Bearded dragon help pleeeease!?
i got an adult bearded dragon about two weeks ago and he's been fine for the first week but he's got less and less active over the last few days. he won't touch his salad and will only eat live food (locusts, meal worms, king worms) and hadn't had a bowel movement for 3 days until this morning. when it came out it contained wood chippings what have been in the tank and i think it may have blocked him up. since his bowl movement he has still not been himself he seems to just lie there all day. i thought it could be brumation but it's too late and he isnt just lying in the cool end of the tank. the temperature and everything in the tank is fine i've done plenty of reasearch but i'm going to change the substrate to sand ASAP incase this is whats rong with him.
does anyone know what i can do to make him better and to make him eat his salad?
im very worried any help would be great.
I have worked in a reptile shop as the head medical person for a while now and I would say that your kid is immpacted with substrate. I would take out all substrate and put him on papertowel or newspaper for the time being.
Take your guy and place him in a warm water bath in a tupperware bowl for a little while and that should help him hydrate and possibly poop some more. I would keep him in there for 30 mins and keep an eye on the temp of the water.
Feel around his belly gentally and make sure there are no hard lumps. If this persists for one more day I would take him to the vet ASAP because they need to remove the blockage.
With any lizard you keep make sure they are on a substrate that they cannot become impacted on. They also need the appropriate UVA UVB full spectrum lighting to ensure that they can metabolize calcium. Also be sure to dust your crickets with some calcium powder.
) Keep a thermostat on your heat lamp and be sure he has a cool spot to run to as well.
