How do you feel when grown ups try to act cool, or "fit in" with teens?
Do you appreciate the fact that they're trying to "understand" you, or are you just annoyed and wish you'd just be left alone?
I'm as old as dirt; maybe older.
I understand what you're saying because, in spite of my advanced age, I still remember grownups doing what you describe when I was a young whipper-snapper. (I love using words like that! I make my voice all creaky like that perv on Family Guy...) anyway, yeah, we all miss our youth. We were all busy trying to act older and were anxious to grow up fast and be adults, and wanted to get shed of our youthful shell ASAP and get all the perks we just KNEW grown-ups got...
Little did we realize that those "perks" included figuring out and paying income taxes, paying mortgages, light bills, water bills, cable bills, internet bills, gas bills, and, did I mention bills?
And the "luxury" of not having to go to school for 6 hours a day anymore! Instead we were able to go to work for 8 hours a day with no summer vacation! Woo Hoo! And those of us who wanted to be "rich" realized pretty quickly that we had to work 10, 12, 15 hours a day and drive an older, paid for car.
In short, except for the ability to buy beer, adulthood turned out to be a raw deal. It sucked. And so we looked back and saw that we did our best to rush through the best years of our lives...and we see y'all young'ins doing the same thing. (Yeah, I talk like this 'cause I live in Tennessee...gimme a break.)
The coolest thing about my being aware of all this, is I can be cool, but I don't have to "act" cool.
In fact, I prefer to act uncool.
I drive an old man's station wagon (it's like a 4-door hatchback) and wear old man's clothes, no tint on my car windows, and my 13 speakers/bass and badassed amp are all hidden in my car. When I'm jammin' to my geezer music (60's, 70's, R&R, reggae, and hip-hop) and the bass is causing the asphalt on the road to jump off in chunks, in time to the music, I can look with a disgusted sneer at the young people next to me and shake my fist at 'em for "their" loud bass. And all the other geezers will look at the youngsters in equal disgust! Ha! Such fun!
