Watercolor and Ebony/Charcoal art question, Sons of anarchy?
so i really want to recreate this poster and I was wondering how to achieve the faded, distressed look of the blue and red background. Here's what i plan to do:
use either watercolor paper or drawing paper, prob water color though and lightly sketch the stars and stripes area with pencil, then crinkle and uncrinkle the paper numerous times to achieve the faded look. then paint kinda with dry water colors to get that look, i was going to use plastic wrap over the paint but when it dries it will only make the painted spots have darker lines, where the plastic wrap was placed.
then i will draw the guy (jax) on drawing paper in charcoal or ebony then cut him out with an exacto knife or something small and precise and lay him over the faded background.
any other suggestions?

Here A an idea you might want to try to get the effect you are looking for the first thing to do is make a template of the star so they are all alike and put them in first now here is what you can do..
Melt some clear wax in a old pot until it is completely melted then place the star template where you want it and brush on the wax over the template and move to the next star do this to all the stars.
Once that is done take a thin stick or the back of a paint brush and dip it in the wax and just make designs, strait and squiggly designs all over the rest of the painting until you think you have enough.
Meanwhile leave all the wax on and let it dry . Now lay out the stripes with a pencil and use your water colors and go over all the red and blue parts of the painting staying within the lines. and once that is dry peel off the stars and all the rest of the wax and you will have that white underneath the color and wherever the wax was will be white with the blue showing through and also the red showing through
The wax will prevent any paint where you don't want it and giving you this neat effect.
